But in a social setting most people won’t. They’ll either hold their breath or even worse, avoid you.
There’s no need to despair – because I’m going to tell you how to banish acid reflux bad breath for good.
But before I do, I need to explain how bad breath is caused in the first place…
How Acid Reflux Causes Bad Breath
Understanding where your bad breath originates from is the first step in solving the problem.
Most people have periods of bad breath and the most common type is caused by the odor producing bacteria living in your mouth.
Bacteria live on the food residue that clings to your teeth, gums and surface of your tongue.
If you don’t brush, floss your teeth or scrape your tongue, these bacteria produce garlic (sulphur) smelling odor that causes bad breath.
Dental oral hygiene or even an anti-bacterial mouthwash won’t make a difference.
Its the simple fact that halitosis caused by acid reflux originates further down your gastrointestinal tract.
Acid reflux is caused by the acid in your stomach travelling up into your esophagus or food pipe.
This can happen if the the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) – a small valve-like valve above the entrance to your stomach – fails to close properly.
Factors Causing Acid Reflux
Acid flowing up into the esophagus can be caused by a number of factors. One of the most common is the type of food you eat. If you have acid reflux you’ll know certain foods can trigger a reflux.
These common trigger foods can include…
- fried foods
- fatty meats
- citrus fruits
- coffee and alcohol.
These foods are acid forming and make your stomach create more acid because they’re hard to digest.
Another reason for acid reflux (GERD) is the amount of food you eat. Eating large meals increases the levels of acid in your stomach resulting in indigestion.
This causes a build up of pressure, which pushes up against the LES and forces it to open.
Acid can travel up as far as the throat, coating the inside of your mouth, larynx and saliva. As you breathe out the acid coated saliva in your throat and mouth produces the strong odor that is acid reflux bad breath.
Bad breath caused by your acid reflux is very pungent and acidic smelling. This is because the hydrochloric acid in your stomach is mixed in with bile, enzymes and of course undigested food particles.
How To Banish Your Acid Reflux Bad Breath For Good
In order to prevent this embarrassing bad breath you need to realize the bad breath is actually a symptom of the problem and not the problem itself.
The acid reflux causing bad breath is a clear sign your digestive system is out of balance.
An unbalanced digestion is when its three major functions are not working properly.
These functions are…
- and eliminating
When these three functions are working in harmony you experience real digestive health, however acid reflux is a clear sign this isn’t happening.
Much of the worlds diseases originate from poor digestion. For example one renowned doctor has said that true happiness is not having brains but a having a healthy digestion.
The doctor is right – without your health – what have you got?
In the last 20 years these digestive disorders have reached epidemic proportions…
- irritable bowel syndrome
- intestinal infections
- Crohns disease
- colon cancer
In many cases these conditions are a direct result of eating the wrong foods and overeating.
Curing bad breath begins by restoring balance to your digestive system. And the first step is to reassess what you’re eating and how you eat.
Processed foods are difficult to digest and spend too long in the intestinal tract. The undigested food begins to ferment turning into toxic matter.
Toxic matter encourages the growth of disease forming pathogenic bacteria. This bacteria can increase the risk of intestinal inflammation and infection.
But it gets worse…
The friendly bacteria and digestive enzymes – two components vital to a healthy digestion – can’t survive in a toxic intestinal tract.
